Local Government Assistance

Leaders within Southern Tier Central communities need access to information on managing financial and economic resources, best management practices, emerging technology, and opportunities for training.

STC's Local Government Assistance initiative provides the following services to leaders and communities:

A classroom during the Regional Leadership Confrence

Technical Assistance - STC assists local community leaders with up-to-date information, data, training opportunities and referrals.  Targeted in-depth assistance is available on a contractual basis and can be designed to meet your community's specific needs and resources.  Examples of targeted assistance include business and marketing studies, shared service feasibility studies, downtown revitalization studies, community visioning and goal setting, grantwriting and grant management.

STC Regional Leadership Conference - An annual one day training program that offers seminars and workshops on a variety of subject areas including financial management and capital planning; economic development; communication and technology; planning and community development; court administration; and highways. The conference also features a trade show of products and services to local government.  The 17th Annual Regional Leadership Conference will be on April 3 & 4, 2013 at Corning Community College.

Ideas That Work - Do you have an innovation or new practice that has resulted in improved service delivery or quality of life in your community?  Examples include Administrative, Financial and Management practices, Intermunicipal Cooperation, Community Leadership and Volunteers, Public-Private Partnerships, Community Revitalization & Economic Development, and Information Technology.  Use the  Ideas That Work information form to share your successes and have them published on the web site.

Resource Library and Database - A library of publications, case studies, sample documents, and training videos related to best management practices in local government. Local officials are welcome to use the library, which is maintained at STC, as well as contribute information concerning their innovations and creative solutions.
